Bill Patterson has resigned as president and CEO of LizardTech, a privately held Seattle company backed with more than $44 million in venture capital.

"I think that my contribution going forward was going to be different than what the company required," said Patterson, who previously held executive positions at Attachmate and Crossport Systems. "It was a common agreement that it was better for me to go."

Patterson, 46, was replaced on an interim basis by venture capitalist Scot Land, according to sources familiar with the situation. Land, a managing partner at Bellevue-based Encompass Ventures, didn't return calls seeking comment.

LizardTech Chief Financial Officer Case Kuehn declined to comment on Patterson's departure or the current leadership, saying he preferred to talk about the company's products rather than its organization.
